State and Local Law Enforcement Urge Drivers to Stay Safe During 'Hands Across the Border' Campaign
State and local law enforcement are urging motorists to make the safe choice and never drive impaired as the 34th annual "Hands Across the Border" enforcement and education campaign begins Monday, August 25 and runs through Friday, August 29.
Enforcement Activities and Campaign Goals
Troopers and local officers in Georgia, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee will stage sobriety checkpoints on both sides of shared state lines during the week. The coordinated effort is intended to reinforce a zero-tolerance message ahead of the Labor Day holiday.
Alignment with National Safety Initiatives
The initiative coincides with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" high-visibility enforcement period, which began August 15 and continues through Labor Day on September 1. In Georgia, patrols will strictly enforce DUI and other traffic laws throughout the 78-hour Labor Day holiday window from 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 29 until 11:59 p.m. Monday, September 1.
