Analysis of Maxwell's Potential Release
Dave Aronberg said Blanche-Maxwell’s best chance of leaving prison is a presidential pardon, given her cooperation in the disputed transcript.
Comments from Aronberg
Aronberg, who said he knows Maxwell’s attorney David Marcus and praised his work, noted Maxwell was convicted by a jury on five of six counts. He added that though perjury allegations could have been pursued, prosecutors focused on larger charges instead.
Possibility of a Pardon
Aronberg said a pardon has been hinted at and argued Maxwell probably will obtain one before the administration ends. He attributed that possibility to the level of cooperation reflected in the transcript, which he said delivered what the former president sought.
Current Legal Status and Outlook
While Maxwell has an appeal pending before the Supreme Court, Aronberg maintained that a presidential pardon represents her most realistic path to early release from the minimum-security facility where she is serving her sentence.
