Bones Hyland returned to Minnesota this fall after a summer as a free agent, saying nearly from the start that the Timberwolves were where he belonged. He initially joined the Wolves on a two-way deal during the 2024-25 season and re-signed with the club in the weeks leading up to training camp following sustained communication with the organization.
Hyland described an immediate fit when he arrived in Minneapolis, pointing to the team’s culture and daily energy. Trade chatter linking him to Minnesota had circulated for years, and he felt the move validated that sense of arrival.
A key reason for the reunion is Hyland’s longstanding relationship with Tim Connelly, who originally selected him when Connelly was with the Nuggets. The two formed a bond at the NBA Draft Combine — a moment Hyland recalls fondly after being asked to perform one of his songs during an interview.
“That connection turned into real support,” Hyland said, noting Connelly has consistently had his back. The bond made Minnesota a natural landing spot once the opportunity arose.
Hyland’s path has not been linear. After a promising rookie season in Denver, his standing shifted when Connelly left for Minnesota.
