University of Brescia Presents Transit Connection Study
The University of Brescia has released a pre-feasibility study proposing a mass rapid transit connection from Brescia to Villanuova sul Clisi, with potential extensions toward Salò on the shores of Lake Garda.
Evaluation of Transport Alternatives
Researchers examined eight transport alternatives, including tram-train, guided bus, trolleybus, and light rail. After weighing performance, cost, environmental impact, and social integration, light rail was identified as the preferred solution.
Proposed First Phase Details
The proposed first phase covers 22 kilometres and would include 11 stops. It would link the Sant’Eufemia-Buffalora terminus of Brescia’s metro line with Villanuova sul Clisi along a fully segregated alignment featuring elevated sections, tunnels, and cuttings. The system is expected to operate at an average speed of about 45 km/h.
