Dallas City Councilman Maxie Johnson Leads Safety Efforts on Clarendon Drive
Dallas City Councilman Maxie Johnson is spearheading efforts to make Clarendon Drive safer after a deadly crash that claimed three lives.
Background on Clarendon Drive's Safety Concerns
Clarendon Drive, a curving route that runs east of the Dallas Zoo to Cockrell Hill, has seen more than a dozen collisions over the past year. Last Wednesday’s crash, in which two children and an adult died when their vehicle struck another car, is the most recent and most serious incident.
City Officials' Response and Safety Measures
Johnson and the city’s director of public safety visited the crash site to press for immediate investments in roadway safety. They urged stepped-up traffic enforcement, lower posted speeds, and other measures to reduce future crashes.
“We're going to come up with a solution, work together to ensure this road is safe,” Johnson said.
