Health advisory for part of Congamond Lake remains while state continues testing

WEST SUFFIELD, Conn. (WFSB) — A public health advisory covering a section of Congamond Lake will remain active as state officials continue water testing.

Authorities say a harmful algal bloom in Middle Pond had cleared by last Friday, but the Massachusetts Department of Public Health wants additional sampling to confirm toxin levels are safe.

The advisory will be lifted only after two consecutive weeks of low toxin readings, officials said.

Residents and visitors are urged not to swim or operate boats in the affected area and to avoid eating fish caught there. Keep pets away from the water and rinse off promptly if you come into contact with it.

State and local agencies will provide updates as new test results become available.
