Rail Yard Dawgs Add Nicholas Cyprian; Helmer Waived, Carlson Placed on Team Suspension

ROANOKE, Va. — The Rail Yard Dawgs announced Tuesday that forward Nicholas Cyprian has been signed to a player tryout contract. The club also placed forward Cade Helmer on waivers and has placed Matt Carlson on team suspension as he returns to school; Roanoke will retain Carlson’s rights.

Cyprian, a 6-foot-2 forward from Aledo, Texas, played four seasons at Chatham University (NCAA DIII). He appeared in 105 collegiate games, recording 46 goals, 77 assists and 82 penalty minutes, and was named Chatham’s Player of the Year for the 2024-25 season. Cyprian skated in three games with the Peoria Rivermen before joining Roanoke and has appeared in four games for the Dawgs. He will wear No. 25.

Helmer spent his college career split between the University of New England and Lebanon Valley College, playing two seasons at each school (NCAA DIII). The Hershey, Pennsylvania native totaled 64 NCAA games with 14 goals, 36 assists and 51 penalty minutes.

Carlson signed with Roanoke earlier this month and tallied two goals in five games. The 5-foot-11 forward from Delmar, New York, played four seasons at Wilkes University (NCAA DIII), finishing his collegiate career with 39 goals, 35 assists

and 40 penalty minutes in 91 games.

The Rail Yard Dawgs travel to Huntsville next weekend for a two-game set at the Von Braun Center. The series opens Friday, March 20 at 8:00 p.m. EST. Season-ticket packages and group tickets are available through the Dawgs’ front office, and single-game tickets can be purchased online or at the Berglund Center box office.
