Japanese hit Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle retained the number-one spot at South Korea’s box office for a third consecutive weekend. It earned $3.8 million from 499,120 admissions between Sept. 5 and 7, bringing its total to $30.7 million from 3.96 million tickets, according to Kobis, the Korean Film Council’s box office tracker.
The Conjuring: Last Rites opened in second place with $1.2 million from 164,695 admissions. The Michael Chaves-directed entry, starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, captured 14.8% of the market in its debut weekend.
Local thriller Murder Report launched in third with $1.05 million and 149,954 admissions. Directed by Cho Young-jun and led by Cho Yeo-jeong and Jung Sung-il, the film centers on a reporter who agrees to interview a serial killer who claims responsibility for 11 murders.
Brad Pitt’s racing drama F1 slipped to fourth, adding $634,000 and lifting its cumulative gross to $37.8 million. Homegrown comedy My Daughter Is a Zombie followed with $604,000 for a running total of $37.4 million.
