Igor Dodon Accuses Ruling PAS of Attempting to Steal Votes in Tense Moldovan Election

Igor Dodon, leader of Moldova’s Socialist Party, has publicly charged the ruling PAS party with attempts to steal votes during Sunday’s parliamentary elections. Dodon made the allegation amid counting and post-vote tensions.

The vote was held against a fraught backdrop, with many citizens split between closer ties to the EU and a pivot toward Russia. Observers say the outcome could determine whether the country, which borders Ukraine, maintains its pro-European trajectory or moves closer to Moscow.

Moldovan authorities and EU officials have also accused Russia of significant interference in the electoral process. The claims have heightened international scrutiny as results continue to be tallied.

Officials from PAS have not responded in detail to Dodon’s accusation, and election monitors are calling for transparency while investigations proceed. Political leaders and diplomatic partners are urging calm as final counts are completed.
