Glasgow’s Centre for Contemporary Arts to Reopen After Leadership Changes
Glasgow’s Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) has confirmed plans to reopen under fresh leadership after a confrontation with Art Workers for Palestine Scotland that prompted a temporary closure in June.
Incident and Organisational Response
The incident on 24 June saw police remove pro-Palestinian demonstrators who had organised an unofficial week-long programme of workshops. The group had urged the CCA to endorse the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) amid the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The CCA says it will appoint a new chair and board members, install new permanent leadership and hire a finance manager as part of an organisational overhaul.
Apology and Future Stance
In a formal apology, the centre acknowledged the disruption and harm caused to its community, staff, tenants, artists and partners. It expressed deep regret over the decisions made on 24 June and confirmed that one person was injured during the events, saying a lack of clarity had tangible human consequences.
