Man Accused of Being Mistakenly Released from Harris County Jail Located in Florida
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office says a man who was accidentally released from jail over the weekend has been located and taken into custody in Florida.
Identification and Arrest
On Thursday, authorities identified the suspect as 36-year-old Troy Dugas and reported his arrest in Fort Lauderdale.
Details of the Mistaken Release
Dugas was mistakenly freed early Sunday at about 4:30 a.m., despite having active state prison sentences. Records show he was sentenced to five years for family violence assault in Fort Bend County and received a two-year term for evading arrest in Brazoria County.
He had been held in the Harris County Jail since Aug. 14 on separate charges that were later dismissed. Jail staff failed to note his outstanding state prison commitments and cleared him for release after the local charges were dropped.
