Overview of The Haunted House of Horror
The Haunted House of Horror, also released as Horror House, is a 1969 British–American proto-slasher film written and directed by Michael Armstrong. Armstrong’s other credits include scripting House of the Long Shadows and work on titles such as The Black Panther and Mark of the Devil.
Production Details
A joint Tigon–American International Pictures production, the film features Frankie Avalon, Jill Haworth, Dennis Price, George Sewell, and Mark Wynter in leading roles.
During production, AIP producer Louis ‘Deke’ Heyward reworked the screenplay, and line producer Gerry Levy (The Body Stealers) shot additional material that introduced a misleading subplot intended as a red herring. Armstrong later expressed dismay at the finished assembly, saying in a 1993 interview with Darkside magazine that seeing the completed film was devastating because the new subplot diluted his original work.
