Houston Independent School District Shows Academic Improvement
HOUSTON — The Texas Education Agency released two years of accountability ratings on Friday after legal disputes, and Houston Independent School District recorded measurable academic gains.
Campus Improvements Highlighted
TEA Commissioner Mike Morath visited Jefferson Elementary, where state data show the campus rose from a D to an A in a single year. Jefferson is one of just 20 campuses statewide to make that jump.
Districtwide Ratings Improve
Districtwide ratings also improved. HISD moved from an overall C in 2024 to a B for 2025, reflecting year-over-year progress at many campuses.

Evaluation Criteria
Campus and district grades are based on three areas: student achievement, academic growth and relative performance.
