Jessica Simpson marked eight years of sobriety on Sunday with a candid Instagram post and a selfie, reflecting on how getting sober reshaped her life.
The 45-year-old singer wrote that eight years ago she decided to confront and release the patterns that were holding her back. She said alcohol had dulled her instincts, stalled her ambitions and fed a fear of complacency. Now, Simpson added, she feels clear and guided by faith — a choice she described as choosing faith over fear and finding strength through surrender.
Simpson, who recently announced her separation from Eric Johnson, told People that sobriety has also improved her songwriting. She said her drinking intensified when she began writing music in 2016, which sent her to dark places and encouraged self-pity. She added that alcohol had deceived her into thinking it made her braver.
