Jones County School District Highlights Budget and Milestones
JONES COUNTY, Miss. — As students begin their third week of the school year, Jones County School District leaders are highlighting a balanced 2025–26 budget and a major financial milestone: the district has retired a bond issued two decades ago.
Financial Achievements and Funding Requests
Superintendent Dr. B.R. Jones said the payoff was achieved in part by requesting less funding this year. He added that reducing the district’s funding request should translate into a lower school millage for taxpayers.
Upcoming Projects and Upgrades
District officials also outlined a slate of ongoing and upcoming projects. Every school will receive upgrades, including new student laptops and updated, high-quality instructional materials for teachers.
Transportation Improvements
All elementary buses are being replaced with air-conditioned models, the superintendent noted. The district operates two distinct bus routes — one for secondary students in grades 7–12 and one for elementary students in grades K–6 — and the AC bus initiative stems from a three-year plan.
