Kennewick Woman Arrested for Reckless Driving
KENNEWICK, Wash. — A 21-year-old woman was arrested Monday morning after Kennewick police say she was driving well over the speed limit on Canal Drive while illegally passing another vehicle.
Details of the Incident
Officers observed the driver traveling 74 mph in a 35 mph zone and making a pass into an oncoming lane. Instead of receiving a second citation, she was booked on a charge of reckless driving, according to police.
Woman's Explanation
When questioned, the woman told officers she was headed to the courthouse to pay a speeding ticket she had received earlier in August.
Police Department's Remarks
The Kennewick Police Department noted on Facebook that driving at such high speeds — and particularly passing in oncoming lanes — endangers everyone on the road. The department added that national traffic safety data show repeat traffic offenders are more likely to be involved in serious or fatal crashes, and that extreme speeding substantially increases crash risk.
