Measles Concerns
Although Texas has seen no new measles cases in more than 40 days, the situation is far from resolved, writes Dr. Stephen C. Restaino of Chesapeake. He warns the outbreak cannot be declared over until vaccination is widespread — a prospect he views as unlikely.
Dr. Restaino adds that rubeola (measles) inflicts prolonged damage on the immune system, leaving children more vulnerable to common infections for up to a year after the initial illness. He cautions that fatal complications can still occur even after apparent recovery.
Zohran Mamdani and New York’s Future
Herb Kline of Virginia Beach raises alarm about Zohran Mamdani, the democratic socialist who could become New York City’s next mayor. Kline says Mamdani’s platform — building thousands of affordable units, creating city-run grocery stores and offering a range of public benefits — appeals to working voters but could have unintended consequences.
