MELBOURNE, Fla. — Minnesota State split a doubleheader at the Space Coast Spring Games on Tuesday, dropping the opener to Lewis before rallying for an extra-inning walk-off win over Purdue Northwest.
Game 1 — Lewis 8, Minnesota State 2
The Mavericks fell 8–2 to Lewis in the first game. Lewis built a 3–0 lead with a two-run double and an RBI single in the second inning. Minnesota State plated both of its runs in the third, sparked by a Chloe Brandt single and a Carly Kimmes double that brought Brandt home; Gianna Lara added an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
Lewis pulled away in the sixth with a three-run homer and an additional RBI single. Freshman Jorey Fry took the loss after working 1 2/3 innings, while Lucy Porter worked the bulk of the game, allowing 10 hits and five earned runs. Kimmes finished with a run, a hit and an RBI, and Ireland Broderick recorded two hits, including a double.
Game 2 — Minnesota State 2, Purdue Northwest 1 (8 innings)
