Mississippi Valley State University announced it has postponed this weekend’s football game against Florida A&M and relocated the contest from Atlanta to Itta Bena.
The matchup had been slated for Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday as part of the Georgia Football Classic, a neutral-site HBCU event series held around the country.
In a statement, MVSU said complications with the event organizers made it impossible to proceed as planned. The schools agreed to reschedule the game for Nov. 29 in Itta Bena, which is Mississippi Valley State’s designated home date.
Mercedes-Benz Stadium confirmed that fans who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster will receive automatic refunds.
Valley’s statement said the decision followed “unforeseen circumstances and issues beyond our control” with the Georgia Football Classic organizers, and that the university had exhausted options to keep the game on the original date.
The Georgia Football Classic was first announced in June. Organizers had also scheduled ancillary activities around the game, including a postgame battle of the bands.
