Netflix Releases Documentary on Michigan Cyberbullying Case
Netflix has released a documentary that examines a startling cyberbullying case in Michigan, in which a mother fabricated online identities and inundated two teenagers with thousands of harassing messages over more than two years.
The Victims and the Investigation
The victims were 14 when the abuse began. What started as an apparent search for the harasser turned into a criminal probe when the FBI discovered the messages were sent by the teens' own mother, Kendra Licari.
Legal Proceedings and Aftermath
Licari was arrested and later convicted on two counts of stalking a minor. She served a prison sentence for those convictions and has since been released on parole.
The Documentary's Content and Purpose
The new film traces the year-long investigation and includes interviews with the teenagers, their families, legal representatives, and Licari herself, offering a comprehensive look at the emotional toll of the scheme.
