PayPal Discontinues Support for Steam Purchases in Most Currencies
PayPal is no longer accepted for purchases on Steam in most currencies after an acquiring bank stopped processing transactions, Valve confirmed in August 2025. The change has left millions of users in affected regions suddenly unable to use a long-standing payment option.
Limited Currencies for PayPal Payments
According to reports from Dexerto, PayPal has limited Steam payments to six currencies: Australian dollar, British pound, Canadian dollar, euro, Japanese yen and US dollar. Customers trying to pay in unsupported currencies can no longer complete purchases directly with PayPal.
Valve's Response and Content Removal
Valve linked the change to broader concerns raised by payment partners about certain content sold on Steam. In recent weeks, the platform also removed a number of adult-themed titles, saying it needed to avoid conflicts with major processors such as Visa, Mastercard and PayPal.
