Major Donation of Modern Art Collection
The Henry and Rose Pearlman Foundation has donated its entire 63-piece modern art collection to three major U.S. institutions: the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), and the Brooklyn Museum. The transfer preserves these works for public display and study, and marks a significant philanthropic gesture in the art world.
Highlights from the Donation
Highlights from the donation include van Gogh’s Tarascon Stagecoach (1888) and Amedeo Modigliani’s 1916 portrait of Jean Cocteau. The works span leading 19th- and 20th-century figures and will now be accessible to broader audiences across the country.
Brooklyn Museum: 29 Works
The Brooklyn Museum will receive 29 pieces, its largest European art acquisition in nearly a century. Several works have local provenance: portions of the Pearlman holdings were exhibited there in the 1950s and 1960s. Director Anne Pasternak noted the gift’s resonance with Henry Pearlman’s New York roots and said it strengthens the museum’s historical and contemporary mission.
