Federal Lawsuit Filed to Access Suspect Julio Cesar Aguirre

The Pima County Attorney's Office filed a federal lawsuit today seeking access to Julio Cesar Aguirre, a suspect currently held in federal custody.

Indictment and Charges

Aguirre was indicted by a Pima County grand jury on July 25 and faces a first-degree murder charge in the fatal shooting of 70-year-old Ricky Miller Sr. He is also charged with multiple felonies tied to six other community members, including attempted robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and prohibited possession of a deadly weapon.

Incidents and Federal Response

Those alleged offenses are linked to incidents that occurred on June 30 in Tucson’s Midtown area. Local prosecutors say federal authorities have so far declined to make Aguirre available for state court proceedings.

County Attorney's Statement

County Attorney Laura Conover said the office filed the suit after weeks of unsuccessful requests to coordinate custody. She argued that the federal government and the newly appointed U.S. Attorney for Arizona have effectively prevented six local victims from pursuing justice.
