Engaging Grandchildren in Crafts During Summer
My grandchildren are getting older and harder to engage in crafts unless the project really piques their interest. With summer basketball and volleyball practices, pool visits and a sleepover during the short visit I had while their parents were away, we had limited time for projects.
Activities We Enjoyed Together
We still fit in a few rounds of Farkle, a marathon Monopoly session, two at-home “Spiderman” movies, cookie baking and trips to the bowling alley and theater. I wanted something a little quirky to capture their attention and to justify a trip to Hobby Lobby.
Creating Clay Gnome Pots
When I showed them clay gnome pots I’d seen on Pinterest, they were eager to make one each and hide them around the house for their mom to find when she returned. We stopped at the nearest Hobby Lobby (there was even a Chick-fil-A nearby for lunch) and picked up supplies—most items were on sale.
Materials Needed
Our materials included small clay pots, adhesive moss, faux fur for beards, wooden noses, artificial succulents, Styrofoam balls and craft glue. The list was short and easy to assemble....
