Introduction to the Olympus OM-4
A film camera that recently landed on my desk was the Olympus OM-4. Launched in 1983, it arrived at the height of the film photography era.
Design and Lens Lineup
Olympus cameras from that period have always appealed to me for their design. Their Zuiko lens lineup was particularly strong and well regarded among contemporaries.
Dependability of Lenses
Back then, lenses produced by major camera makers were generally dependable. The poorest optics tended to come from third-party manufacturers such as Sigma and Soligor.
Evolution of Lens Quality
That landscape has changed over time. In the last 15 years Sigma, once seen as an off-brand, has risen to produce some top-tier lenses, reversing its earlier reputation.
