Series Background
Homicide: Life on the Street ran on NBC from 1993 to 1999 and is currently streaming on Peacock. This piece examines season four’s second installment, “Fire Part Two,” directed by Nick Gomez and first broadcast on October 27, 1995.
Episode Summary
The episode picks up immediately after the previous instalment. Detectives Pembleton, Bayliss, and Kellerman investigate a second warehouse blaze where a burned body has been recovered. Dental records identify the victim as Bonnie Nash, a teenage girl, and the position of the body suggests she was already dead when the fire was set.
Character Dynamics
Interpersonal tensions drive much of the episode. Pembleton’s distrust of Kellerman remains apparent, while Bayliss struggles through investigations hampered by a degenerative disc and frequent complaints of pain. Kellerman’s announcement that he’s quitting smoking irritates Pembleton further.
