Scranton Announces Demolition of Vacant Houses
SCRANTON — The city announced plans to demolish nine vacant, blighted houses scheduled for late summer and early fall.
Historical Efforts to Improve Neighborhoods
Scranton has a history of annually removing condemned, deteriorating properties that pose safety risks and depress neighborhood values.
Funding for Demolitions
City officials said seven of the upcoming demolitions will be paid for with federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) dollars the city receives each year. The remaining two removals will be covered with municipal funds.
Mayor's Remarks
Mayor Paige Gebhardt Cognetti noted the effort’s impact, saying the work brings the administration close to removing 100 properties and helps raise property values while eliminating hazardous structures across neighborhoods.

- 231–233 Harrison Ave.
