Spokane County Begins Filling Prosecutor’s Office
Spokane County has begun the process to fill the prosecutor’s office after Acting Prosecutor Preston McCollum won a commanding plurality in the recent vote, capturing nearly 80% of ballots. McCollum publicly thanked the Republican Party and framed his campaign around stronger criminal accountability and a focus on supporting victims.
Next Steps in the Appointment Process
County commissioners will now consider three nominees for the position: McCollum, Assistant Attorney General Steve Garvin and attorney Marshall Casey. The commissioners must agree on an appointment; if they cannot reach consensus, the responsibility will transfer to Governor Bob Ferguson.
Term and Future Elections
The person selected will complete the remainder of former Prosecutor Haskell’s term. Voters will have the final say when the office is contested again on the 2026 ballot.
Idaho Senate Race Developments
Separately, in Idaho, former state lawmaker and Army veteran Todd Achilles is advancing his campaign for the U.S. Senate, challenging the Republican incumbent in that race.
