Firefighters Receive Heartfelt Thanks in Spokane Valley
SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Firefighters at Station One welcomed a visit Thursday from Lori Ragan and her daughter who came to personally thank the crew for their help during a medical emergency earlier this year.
Helping During a Critical Moment
The Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to Lori’s mother in March. Their intervention provided additional time before she passed away in July, time the family says was invaluable.
Emotional Reflection from a Family Member
Ragan described a meaningful moment the emergency response made possible. "I got to hear my daughter say, 'I love you Nana,' for the first time," she said. That chance for last conversations and extra moments with her grandfather, she added, "meant the world to me, honestly."
First Responders’ Perspective
Captain Brad Huffman noted that first responders rarely learn what ultimately happens to the patients they treat. They handle many cardiac arrests and other critical and noncritical calls, he said, but follow-up is uncommon.
