Stella Cole, 26, today issues her second full-length album, It’s Magic, through Decca Records US.
Production and Inspiration
Produced by Grammy-winning Matt Pierson and featuring sweeping string work from Grammy-winning pianist-arranger Alan Broadbent, the record reimagines classic love songs with fresh, cinematic production. Cole also released a touching short film that traces the path that led her to this release.
Album Details and Themes
The album takes its name from Doris Day’s 1948 hit “It’s Magic,” from the film Romance on the High Seas, and positions that song as a focal point. Cole’s warm, candid take aims to capture the dizzying glow of new romance — the feeling of walking on air or stepping into a vintage movie or impressionist painting.
Recording and Arrangements
Recorded at New York’s famed Power Station, It’s Magic was assembled around a desire to revisit familiar material with inventive arrangements. The set moves between orchestral grandeur and chamber intimacy.
