WASHINGTON — The Justice Department under President Trump has turned its attention to Sen. Adam Schiff, the California Democrat who relied heavily on leaked information and media coverage during his pursuit of former President Trump.
Investigation Leadership and Allegations
Leading the effort is Ed Martin, head of the DOJ’s Weaponization Working Group. Martin, who failed to secure Senate confirmation for the U.S. attorney post in the District of Columbia, is examining allegations that Schiff leaked classified material, improperly claimed primary residences in Maryland and California to obtain favorable mortgage terms, and even probing real estate matters connected to New York Attorney General Letitia James.
FBI Notes and Witness Accounts
Recently released FBI notes reference a former staffer from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence who told investigators he witnessed widespread leaking of classified documents while Schiff was the committee’s ranking Democrat in 2016 and 2017.
